It's a loverly day with a spoonful of sugar and all of my favorite things! Why all the Julie Andrews references you ask? Well, the hills are alive with the sound of music because today is the release of Julie Andrews' memoir and I can't tell you how excited I am! I have been waiting for YEARS, and it's finally here...a book written by Julie about Julie. The book, entitled Home: A Memoir of my Early Years, concentrates on her beginnings in show business working in vaudeville theatre touring around Britain and ends with Walt Disney casting her in Mary Poppins. I can't wait to read it...I know it will be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious!

Julia Child...alive again?

Ok so Julia Child did not come back from the dead, but almost! This month, a book about Julia's years in France, where she first learned not only to love the preparation of food but where she realized that food is an experience. It's called Julia Child - My Life in France. It's being published post-humously which is a rare treat, and I can't wait to read it. The description reminds me of the great time I had when I read Tender at the Bone by Ruth Reichl, a restaurant critic for the New York Times.  If you enjoy food, as I do, you'll love this book. It's the story of how food was what defined her family life and gave everything its meaning. I'm anxious to read about Julia's transformation from someone who didn't know how to cook at all, to the guru that she became. I remember when she was doing a book signing at Williams-Sonoma in Boston. I got the opportunity to go there and I bought a book and had it signed by Julia for my Mom, Julia's biggest fan. My Mom would watch Julia Child on tv like one would watch a soccer game. Here's a picture of Julia that I took that day. I'll never forget it!
