The Movie Munchie Marathon was a success! All the films were fun to watch and provided great contrast between them.
First up, Gabs with his selection: FLUSHED AWAY, a 2006 animated film starring the voices of Kate Winslet and High Jackman, in which a pet mouse is flushed down a London toilet and finds love while trying to get back home. Gabs served a very welcome breakfast of English muffins, sausages, hash browns, and coffee.
Then it was my turn. My movie was A FEW GOOD MEN, the classic 1992 courtroom drama in which Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson uttered those never-forgotten lines at the film's climax: "I want the truth!", "You can't handle the truth!" I served Cocoa Puffs Candy and offered a $10 iTunes gift certificate to the first person who could link my snack to the movie I selected. Gabs won when he remembered that at one point Tom Cruise tells Demi Moore and Kevin Pollak that all he had at his place was Yoo Hoo and Cocoa Puffs and if they wanted anything else they'd have to bring it. Obscure, I know...but it was fun.
The next movie up was Mich's selection. We didn't own her movie so we had to go to two video stores to find it. But boy was it worth it. She picked THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, a movie about a banker who is sent to prison for a crime he didn't commit. There is nothing about this movie that isn't perfect...but the thing that rounds it out for me is the narration by Morgan Freeman. We were pretty hungry by the time movie # 3 came around, so it's a good thing Shawshank came with the meal Andy Dufresne probably dreamed about having when he finally would make it to Mexico: three kinds of quesadillas with pico de gallo, chips and salsa, and cafe con leche shakes. We even had Stroh's labels for our beer bottles, so they would match the beer Andy managed to get from the prison guard after making a deal to do his taxes.
To finish off our movie marathon, thegorum treated us to the comedic genius of Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, and Dolly Parton in 9 to 5 (tied with Shawshank Redemption with a rating of 88% on Rotten Tomatoes). It's a 1980 classic about how three female office workers get back at their jerk male boss. The laughs were a great antithesis to the seriousness of movies # 2 and # 3. Austin gave us a pick-me-up with freshly brewed coffee served in paper cups and accompanied by Dunkin Donuts.
It was a day during which we celebrated movies with food...what a great way to do it! Pics here.
