My New Toy!

I bought myself a new toy today! Even if you don't know me, you've probably already figured out that I take my camera everywhere. I love to take pictures of plants, people, great colors and textures, and especially food. In the recent flooding of my car, my trusty camera drowned. I think I mourned the camera more than my car! So I've been without a camera for about 4 weeks...which has certainly affected my blog! Today, I went with Michi (handy photographer sister) to buy my new camera. I bought a Canon Powershot SD1100 IS in Pink Melody. I LOVE IT! The picture above is the first picture I'm blogging that I've taken with my new camera. Love the digital macro. This flower just bloomed this morning, and it's covered with drops from this afternoon's rain. I figured since my camera is pink, this is an appropriate first shot.

An after-dinner visitor

After dinner we were watching David Blaine: Drowned Alive when out of the blue we had a surprise visitor.

At first we didn't notice, but Lola was quite unwelcoming so we had to get up to see what all the commotion was about. I thought our guest was quite rude, and wanted immediate termination of life, but Gabriel was much more forgiving, and instead decided to send our guest packing by throwing her out into the yard. I was curious as to our guest's origins, and found this interesting site: AntWeb. I tried looking up our visitor but couldn't find an exact match. I'm just glad that this guy hasn't decided to drop by. Or this guy. Or this guy for that matter.

Super-sized Roadkill

While driving home on the highway yesterday, we came across something I had never seen before and hope to never see again. Two horses were laying, dead, in the grassy division in the middle of the road. Their bodies were bloated from being in the heat all day. According to some people who live nearby, the horses were hit by a truck around 1:00 am that morning. As we were leaving, a police car finally came by to the relief of the onlookers. Here are the pictures we took, but beware...it's pretty disturbing.
